What is Adventure Racing?
- Teams of 2 or 4 people will complete an unmarked course of approximately 10kms, 20kms or 40kms with the aid of a printed Google map, visiting checkpoints on foot and mountain bike (with a few surprise activities thrown into the mix)
What are the team Formats?
10km Adventure Race
- Team of 2 (any combination of age and gender)
- Team of 4 (any combination of age and gender)
25km/40km Adventure Race
- Team of 2 (1 male & 1 female)
- Team of 2 (2 males)
- Team of 2 (2 females)
- Team of 2 (parent and child – any combination of parent and child – 18 years old or younger)
- Team of 2 (school pairs – any combination of team members still in school)
- Team of 4 (male/s & female/s)
- Team of 4 (male only)
- Team of 4 (female only)
- Team of 4 (parent and children – any combination of parent and children – 18 years old or younger)
- Team of 4 (any combination of team members still in school)
What are the race distances?
- The races will cover approximately 10kms, 25kms and 40kms
- Duration for the 10km Adventure Race is anything between 1 and 3 hours
- Duration for the 25km Adventure Race is anything between 2 and 5 hours
- Duration for the 40km Adventure Race is anything between 2 and 5 hours
What are the Race Disciplines?
- Mountain biking: Teams should be prepared for a range of riding including single track, steep hills, gravel roads and sealed roads
- Trekking: Will involve traveling by foot through rugged terrain
- Running: Will involve trail-type running
- Orienteering: Basic orienteering is an extremely important part of the race. The course is not marked and teams are required to navigate by making use of a printed Google map provided by the race organizer. Don't be too worried though - if you can navigate a street map, you are good to go
How much will I pay per team?
- 10km - R650 for a team of 2
- 10km - R1300 for a team of 4
- 25km - R750 for a team of 2
- 25km - R1500 for a team of 4
- 40km - R850 for a team of 2
- 40km - R1700 for a team of 4
Can I swap out a team member?
Yes you can! Send an email to admin@adventurexsa.co.za with the replacement details and we will get in touch with you. Best of all - this is FREE of charge.
Tell me about the maps?
- Teams will use a map to locate checkpoints in order to complete the route
- Maps supplied will be Google maps
- If the map is lost or damaged it will not be replaced by the organisers so take care of your maps
- Bring a large ziploc bag with to protect your map - not a requirement, merely a suggestion
What do I bring with?
- Running shoes
- Mountain bike and helmet
- Cellphone and pen
- Ziploc plastic bag for maps and race instructions
- Sufficient liquid and nutrition for the duration of the event
- Extra cash to buy awesome merchandise or snacks at the venue
- Hat and sunscreen
- Cycle odometer to measure distance (not compulsory, but would be cool to have one), and last but not least,
- A thirst for adventure

Can I volunteer to help at the event?
The best way to be part of the race if you cannot participate yourself is to become a volunteer marshal.
